For the long Easter break, Dan and I hired a car and took an 800km road trip up to Cantabria in the North of Spain. We love these journeys and usually take the back roads because Spain really has the most breathtaking landscapes.
We arrived in the mountain top village of Aniezo where his parents have a little cottage complete with wood burner! Just as well because it was very wet and cold up there on that mountain. Armed with my camera and my Kindle loaded with Jane Eyre (I have read this book nearly 10 times) I was content to spend my weekend away from civilisation and the hustle and bustle of Barcelona.
Aniezo and the other villages in the region are breathtaking. It seriously is like living in a place that time forgot. People live high up on these mountains, accessible by only winding (nerve racking) roads and seem to be utterly content.
The pictures I have added to this post are very moody. I believe it is because I have been reading the very brooding and dark Jane Eyre (by the fireside for nearly 5 days!) I feel that these particular pictures could have been plucked from the pages of said book.
Enjoy!.
Hasta Luego!
